Informing your customers of the missing amount before he/she can benefit from free delivery is a simple and efficient way to increase order total .

L’article Prestashop – Display remaining amount before free delivery est apparu en premier sur BeComWeb Web-Agency.

Free delivery is a very important criterion for consumers. So much so that having to pay shipping costs is one of the most common causes of cart abandonment.

There is a very easy way to fix this problem: tell your customers how much money they need to add to their carts to take advantage of free shipping.

In addition to lowering the number of abandoned carts, displaying the amount remaining before free shipping also has the effect of increasing the average cart value of your store. Customers are .

We will see together how to set up this functionality on your Prestashop merchant site.

Use a module to display the amount before getting shipping costs

The easiest way to display how much a customer must add to his/her cart to get free shipping is to install the Amount before free shipping module.

Designed for Prestashop 1.7, it integrates perfectly with all stores in just a few clicks and offers a wide variety of options:

It allows you to display blocks containing messages saying “Amount left before free delivery: xx €” on different places of the store (at the top of each page, within the order tunnel, on add-to-cart confirmation pop-in…)

For each of these blocks you can customize the appearance (background and text colors, …) and the text of the message

The blocks are updated in real time, as soon as the contents of the cart change

It works with both the “Free shipping starts at” field (if you offer delivery cost for a similar cart amount threshold, regardless of the carrier) and the price ranges system, which allow you to configure a different free shipping threshold for each delivery method.

Show on cart page the amount to add for having free delivery

If you don’t want to go through a module, you can also implement the functionality by modifying the source code of your site. We will therefore see in this 2nd part how to manually add, on the basket summary page, a block indicating to the customer the amount he must add to obtain the free delivery. .

To do this, you have to modify the controller which is responsible for managing the cart page and the associated template.

Several remarks before we start:

the tutorial below explains how to do this for Prestashop 1.7. For previous versions, the template is different because the file structure has changed in this version. Depending on your theme the name or the path of the template may be different.

the method described here is only valid if you use the “Free shipping starts at” field of the “Shipping > Preferences” menu (in other words if you offer delivery from a certain amount, regardless of the carrier selected by the customer); if you use the price ranges, please refer to the 1st part of this article, dealing with the “Amount before Free Delivery” module

If you haven’t already done so, go to the “Shipping > Preferences” menu in your back office. There you will find a field titled “Free shipping starts at” (€). This is where you will indicate the threshold from which you offer the shipping costs to the customer (the value included VAT). For this tutorial we will set this value to 79 €.

On Prestashop 1.7, the free shipping threshold is configured in the “Shipping > Preferences” menu.

To transmit this amount to the page we will need to create an “override” of the controller. To do this, you must create a file called CartController.php in the override/controllers/front directory of Prestashop. This file should contain the following code:

<?php

class CartController extends CartControllerCore
{
    public function initContent()
    {
        parent::initContent();
        $shipping_free_price = (float)Configuration::get('PS_SHIPPING_FREE_PRICE');
        $this->context->smarty->assign([
            'shipping_free_price' => $shipping_free_price
        ]);
    }
}

The code added here is intended to pass a Smarty variable that corresponds to the value defined in the preferences.

Then we will be able to use this value in the template. We choose the cart-detailed-totals.tpl template (in the \templates\checkout\_partials directory of your theme), which corresponds to the block summarizing all the subtotals in the right column of the cart summary page. It has the advantage of being dynamic, whcih mean its content is refreshed each time the cart is modified (product addition or deletion, etc.).

We add the block showing the amount remaining before free delivery after the “Delivery” subtotal as follows:

          {if $subtotal.type === 'shipping'}
              <div><small class="value">{hook h='displayCheckoutSubtotalDetails' subtotal=$subtotal}</small></div>
              {* Block containing remaining amount before free delivery *}
              {if isset($shipping_free_price)}
              <div {if $shipping_free_price <= $cart.subtotals.products.amount}style="display:none"{/if}>
                {assign var="missing_amount" value=$shipping_free_price-($cart.subtotals.products.amount - $cart.subtotals.discounts.amount)}
                {$missing_amount|number_format:2:",":""} {$currency.sign} {l s='before free delivery' d='Shop.Theme.Global'}
              </div>
              {/if}
              {* End of block *}
          {/if}

As you can see, we compare the amount of the order (without discounts) to the threshold of free shipping. If this amount is lower, we display the difference, otherwise we hide the block.

The missing amount to get the free shipping cost will be displayed under the shipping amount on the Prestashop 1.7 cart summary page

You can then add an CSS identifier or class to the HTML div tag to be able to modify the appearance of the block as you wish.

Remember to empty the site cache from the Advanced settings > Performances menu so that of files modifications are taken into account.

As explained above this method has its own limits: it does not work with the price ranges system, it must be used in a place of the theme which reload on every cart update, it does handle free-delivery discount codes, … For all these reasons (and may be others), we invite you to discover our Amount Before Free Delivery module introduced in the 1st part of this article if you haven’t read it already. It covers all cases and has a large number of setting options.

As a Prestashop store manager, you may have already faced this situation : you want to a product to be displayed among new products again, or on the contrary remove it from the “new products” list.

There are multiple possible reasons:

The product had been deleted by mistake, so you had to recreate it and therefore it’s not really new

It does not have a photo, it is an insignificant little accessory… In short it does not really have its place among the new products that you want to highlight

On the contrary, it is an article that sells very well and you would like to be able to extend the time it will spend on this page.

Whatever the reason you face the same problem: you cannot modify this value from the back-office of your Prestashop e-store. We will see how to overcome this limitation.

Expert solution : Modify the creation date directly in the database

If you have access to the database management system (generally PhpMyAdmin) and you master these operations, you can change the date of creation directly in the database.

To do this, start by locating the id of the product you want to modify in the list present in the Catalog > Products menu. Pretty simple, it’s the number in the 1st column to the left.

Change a product’s creation date in the Prestashop database with its ID

Then open the database in PhpMyAdmin interface and go to the product_shop table. Click on the “Search” tab, enter the product ID and validate.

Access the product from PhpMyAdmin to modify the date directly in the database

Locate the date_add column, click the cell to display the date picker, and use it to change the value.

The “datepicker” allows you to choose the new creation date of the product in your Prestashop store

If you use the “multishop” mode of Prestashop, searching a product from its will give you several lines. Make the change for as many as you want, using the shop_id column to identify the shop.

Then go to the product table to reproduce the same manipulation (find the product from its ID then modify the date present in the date_add column for it).

Important: if you do not have a good understanding of PhpMyAdmin, or if you do not know how to access it, we strongly advise you to turn to the 2nd method explained below. On the other hand, to avoid any unpleasant surprises, we recommend that you perform a database backup via the backup menu before performing these operations.

Easy solution : Use a module to modify the date of addition of the product

If the operations described above seem complex to you, or if you simply want to simplify your work, you can also use a module to very easily modify the product creation date in Prestashop.

Good news, we have what you need! Lucky you, it’s not expensive at all, and even free for Prestashop 1.6

The operation is very simple since the module adds a new field in the product-page of your shop’s back-offfice, as you can see on the screenshots below.

For Prestashop 1.6 the module creates a new tab “Product creation date”

For Prestashop 1.7 the field allowing to modify the product addition date is in the “Options” tab

To modify the date of addition of the product you just have to click in the field to display the calendar (or “datepicker”), then choose the new date and save. It’s that simple.

This module is available on our store. Please feel free to click on the link below to access its download page. The Prestashop 1.6 version is free, while Prestashop 1.7 version is available at a very low price. In both cases the module will be very helpful.

In addition to being an effective vectori of communication, because it allows you to easily exchange information with your buyers, the blog is also a powerful tool to improve the income of your online store, since it offers you 2 opportunities: retain your existing customers and recruit new customers to your business. But running a blog can also be very beneficial for the SEO of your e-store.

By the way, what is a blog?

The question may seem strange, because if you have started reading this article it is because you must already have a pretty good idea of what it is all about. However, a little reminder will not be too much to set the context.

For some people, the term still refers to the personal pages wrote by teenagers ten years ago (before the emergence of social networks) and on which they shouted their love for a football club or a music group. At the risk of disappointing some, that will not be the subject here.

Instead we are going to talk about professional blogs where we find news, data, tests, articles or a list of advices about a theme or a field of activity in particular (cooking, travel, decoration, etc.). They are run by people with a very good knowledge of their subject and are aimed at a targeted readership.

We can cite as an example… the page on which you are currently. This is the blog section of our site and you will find our articles there about the worlds of web and e-commerce in particular. In some cases an entire site is a blog, like the Nosto Blog (but don’t click right away, there’s plenty of interesting stuff to read after).

Why would I need a blog?

Before answering this question I am going to ask you to recall a situation that you have already experienced. You must have gone to a household appliance store one day to buy any device, no matter which one. There you have certainly had to deal with 2 categories of sellers: the one who simply read the product-sheet placed next to the demonstration model and the one who pushes you towards the cash register with the box of the product he recommends you in your hand, before you’ve even finished explaining to him/her why you came to the store. In general in these 2 cases it is likely that you did not enjoy your shopping experience, maybe even that you left without the device for which you came. In any case, you did not get the service you expected.

In terms of marketing, the blog brings many advantages to e-merchants

Prior to pruchasing online, each customer goes through a buying journey . He gets information, compares the products and their prices, places his order and “consumes” his purchase. Before the order, he may need additional information (opinions from other customers, details from the seller, etc.). After the order, he is also likely to continue to interact (request for advice on how-to-use, creation of alink beween him/her and the brand, etc.). This is where the blog comes in and becomes a powerful tool to set you apart from your competition.

Here is a list of the benefits that you can get from a blog as an e-merchant.

Having an effective communication tool

The blog will allow you to transmit a large amount of information to your visitors: launch of a new range of products, participation in a trade fair, opening of a new delivery service, etc. You will be able to keep them informed of all your news .

It is complementary to your e-store, in the sense that this type of editorial content is often quite poorly managed by e-commerce CMS. They are not really suitable for conveying this kind of information to customers.

The articles you write on the blog can also be used to feed your social networks . You write an article on the blog and then share it on the different platforms.

First of all, the blog is the perfect tool to communicate your e-shop’s freshest news to your customers

The effectiveness of the blog is also due to the fact that it allows to provide more information and quality information . You can present the same elements as on your site but from a different angle. In an e-store, product descriptions are often quite “formal”: list of technical specifications, product composition, etc. The blog offers you the opportunity to provide rich and complementary information. For example you can write a file / report detailing the history of conception of a product, the philosophy of a new products range; all complemented by a photo gallery in situation,…

Promote your business and your products

Even if you choose to start a blog, your business remains online sell and your income comes from orders placed on your e-shop. So, in addition to these marketing and communication aspects, the blog also serves as a lever for growth .

You must therefore “inject” some commercial content into your articles, which will encourage your customers to buy or buy more . While that shouldn’t be your only motivation, the goal is to convert some of the time and energy you spend on blogging into revenue.

So highlight your products and services, explain to the people who will read your articles why they should buy from you rather than from your competitor (who perhaps does not have a blog to develop his own sales pitch),…

But do it in a subtle way to avoid sounding overly aggressive or intrusive. The blog must continue to give the feeling of being a “non-mercantile” place. Besides, its atmosphere must differ from the one of the e-shop. Do not forget that the visitor came there to read, get information, discuss,… If he feels that you are in the process of making advertisi,g, you risk losing his confidence.

Your editorial content can be enhanced with elements highlighting your e-shop and its products

There are many ways to keep the business side of blogging low-key. One of them consists of alternating editorial content and product placements . If you are writing a dossier on a seasonal product (e.g. sunscreen), start by addressing the general aspects (the evolution of the product over time), then develop the point-by-point theme (the different products by type of skin, by age,…) then finish by including a list of recommended products (containing links to the store’s item sheets) in the conclusion of the article.

By doing this you will capture the reader’s attention. Once their interest is aroused, they will be more willing to discover the products you want to promote . You will have to accompany him until the beginning of his purchasing journey.

Address the right target and strengthen the bond of trust

Much more than the e-store, the blog is also the place where you go to talk about yourself and the life of your business . For example, you can express points of view, share your favorites, announce an event (eg: a reward obtained, the opening of a point-of-sale, etc.). Addressing your readers personally will create a more direct link with your target audience .

This link will also go in both directions. Visitors will be able to use the comments to give you their own opinions. Some will take the opportunity to ask you questions or express their satisfaction (and therefore a form of recognition of your work), others will pass on their expectations to you (which will allow you to identify new business opportunities ). These exchanges will have the effect of creating a community effect, which will lead to customer loyalty. As for the answers you provide to your prospects, they will encourage them to order on the e-shop .

The bond of trust created with the blog’s readers will allow you to reach a targeted clientele

Your blog should above all be a space where you talk about what excites you: your job. And it should be for people who share that passion with you. Mails it must also show that you are competent in this area, in that it offers you the possibility of acting as a prescriber or influencer. It is this position that will make your audience receptive to your communication rather than that of your competitors.

Take advantage of a new source of traffic and improve your SEO

We’ve just seen how to get blog readers to come and visit your online store, but we haven’t covered the previous step: getting people to read your blog . Obviously we are not talking here about your existing clientele or your community. The idea here will be to see how you will use the blog to introduce your merchant site to new customers .

You know the general principle of operation of search engines: they provide a list of results that correspond to the keywords used for the search. So your goal will be to write articles containing the terms that your customers will use during their research so that your links stand out among the 1st results. Is the title and summary of the article catchy? Congratulations, you have just won a reader and therefore a potential customer.

The blog will allow you to obtain new visits to the e-shop and will help improve your SEO

You may have also heard that a blog would be good for SEO for your merchant site . Well it’s true… in some cases. Everything will depend on the technical solution for which you will choose, we talk about it below.

In addition to having a clear preference for relevant content (for example pages where the title matches the texts), search engines appreciate “living” sites , that is to say where this famous content changes regularly (especially the home page). It’s a bit like us, we will always tend to go into a store because it has just redone its window rather than the one opposite which exhibits the same 3 old items since the year before.

This is where the blog comes in. It is enough that your site contains one (or more) zone (s) presenting the last news which you published and you will have this mechanism of automatic renewal of the contents dear to the search engines. Obviously your buyers will also appreciate this dynamism and will visit the store more frequently.

Set up a blog – Technical solutions

There are many ways to start a blog and associate it with an e-store. I will present several of them to you, but I will only stay on those that seem to me to be truly relevant.

here, we will essentially talk about CMS and it is the names of WordPress and Prestashop that will come up most often. There are 2 reasons for this: the first is that they are the ones we use to create websites and shops on a daily basis; we know them so we know what they are worth. Then they are the most used, they are leaders in their respective categories (e-commerce for Prestashop, all other types of site for WordPress). But what is true for WordPress and Prestashop is also true for Drupal and Magento.

Install a blog module for Prestashop

A blog module will allow you to add a “News” section to your store. There will therefore be a page listing the articles in chronological order, each article will be individually searchable and you will be able to display lists of the latest news in different places of the store (on the home page, in the footer, etc.) .

The advantage of this solution is that it is very easy to set up . The module is installed in a few clicks, the configuration should not take you much more than 30 minutes and the operation does not require any particular technical ability (you may have to work a little on the visual adaptation to make everything come together). well with the graphic charter of your theme).

There are many blog modules on the Prestashop marketplace. But the quality is very variable

You are going to say to me “But this is the ideal solution then”. Well actually… not really. First because the quality of these modules is very variable . Today all the free modules that we have been able to test are either buggy, or very poorly designed, or incomplete (half of the essential features are missing), or downright dangerous because of their security vulnerabilities. The “award” goes to XipBlog. If you come across this abomination during your research, we advise you to flee. On the other hand, the Professional Blog module is of very good quality and its price is reasonable. If you had to opt for this solution, this is the one we recommend.

The other limit of blog modules is that they don’t create the “non-commercial” vibe we talked about above. Having a blog separate from your store will allow you to speak to your customers in a different tone and in a different context . They will not feel that your approach is motivated by the desire to make one more sale.

WooCommerce : Add a store to your site

WooCommerce is a (big) plugin for WordPress that allows you to transform this general CMS into a commercial site or to add a “shop” part to a traditional site . It is ideal when selling online is just one aspect of your site… as is our case.

And yes the site you are currently on combines these 2 elements. Its main function is to present the agency and its services. Needless to say, he also has a blog since you are reading it. And together with that there is the store where you can buy modules for Prestashop.

The combination of WordPress and WooCommerce makes it possible to set up mixed sites grouping together pages, a blog and a store

By approaching WooCommerce, we therefore moved a little away from the original subject of the article which was “why set up a blog in addition to my e-store”. But this technical solution is still suitable in the following cases:

You want to create both a merchant website and a blog

You have an existing WordPress site and want to get into e-commerce.

For the 2nd situation, installing WooCommerce will spare you a complete overhaul of your site ; which would be synonymous with significant expenses, loss of content (what “held” in WordPress will not necessarily “fit” in Prestashop) and probably also referencing (the time that the engines understand that you have “moved”).

Again if we compare the advantages and disadvantages we see that this solution has the advantage of being “all-in-one” (you have a single tool to manage the entire system) and the work of integrating the system. The e-shop is moderate (install and configure WooCommerce, feed the catalog, etc.). On the other hand, there is still no separation between the blog and the e-shop to give this impression of “neutral zone” .

Display the latest news from your blog on your e-store

To create the conditions that will arouse the interest of your customers, it is therefore preferable to offer them 2 distinct spaces: the blog and the store . The 1st will be managed with WordPress while the 2nd will be administered with Prestashop. Technically it is also the most solid solution since you will use each CMS to perform tasks that correspond to its specialty: the WordPress interface is perfect for posting news and Prestashop is a complete system for managing merchant sites. You have the best of both worlds.

From there it will therefore be necessary to display the news of your blog within your store in order to benefit from the advantages in terms of SEO which we were talking about above.

For this we will use a module that will take care of retrieving recent news from the blog and display them on the Prestashop store . It will therefore “pull” the data (texts, links and images) of the latest news of the blog and display them on the e-shop. To summarize the module acts as a connector or a gateway between WordPress and Prestashop. This is the solution we recommend, because it is both technically sound and ideal for SEO.

If this solution interests you, we invite you to take a look at our “My WordPress Posts” module (see below). Very easy to configure, it will allow you to integrate the latest news from a WordPress blog into your Prestashop e-store in a few clicks . Do not hesitate to consult the module page to learn more, see screenshots and watch a demonstration video.

My WordPress posts

29,00€

Here are some tips if you choose to start a WordPress blog to complement your merchant site. First of all, keep it simple, the project must remain “light”, this will save you time and stay on a reasonable budget . The goal is to set up a news publication platform, so opt for a simple theme (there are many free WordPress themes oriented “blog” or “webzine” that will do perfectly well) and avoid adding extensions if they do not bring real added value. For the address, we advise you to choose the subdomain option, in order to obtain a url of the blog.mysite.com type . All hosts offer it and it’s easy to set up.

Alternative solutions … and not always satisfactory

As explained above, there are a multitude of CMS and each has its own solutions: there are blog modules for Magento, a plugin allows you to transform Drupal into an e-shop, Shopify offers a blog option, … Each of its solutions is similar to the 3 cases which we have just detailed.

Using Prestashop CMS pages to create a blog is not recommended, this feature does not meet the need well and has many shortcomings

Then we could talk about other “DIY” alternative solutions, whose principle is to hijack an existing functionality. The most common is to use Prestashop CMS pages . If we arrive at an approximate result, it should still be noted that there are many gaps. This system is limited in terms of design ; to obtain a visually pleasing result it is necessary to deeply rework the templates and the CSS. You also don’t have as much SEO optimization as with WordPress, so pages will generally be quite poorly referenced. And you will not have access to several important features of a blog: the comment system, tags, social networks sharing buttons,… Not to mention the fact that the WordPress text editor is much more complete and easier to learn than that of Prestashop. In short, it is a solution to be avoided .

The qualities of a good blog

Now that we have discussed the advantages of a blog for e-merchants and studied the different technical solutions, we invite you to take an overview of the elements that will participate in the success of yours:

it must be “editorial” oriented, it is your “newspaper” or your company’s “magazine” so avoid parasitizing it with off-topic things (downloading documents, registration form, etc.)

its design must be clean and airy so that it is easy to read, including on mobile and tablet (the “responsive” must therefore be neat),

it correctly uses all the specific features to this type of site such as the categorization of articles, the association by keywords (tags), the social networks sharing buttons and obviously the comments,

it respects the main principles of SEO such as the title / paragraph alternation or the correspondence between the words present in the title and in the paragraphs,

there are quality images and those images are in reasonable quantity and their sizes are harmonized,

if you offer a newsletter, the registration form is highlighted there (your blog is the place where you will recruit the more subscribers)

By respecting a simple set of specifications, it is possible to easily obtain a blog that is pleasant to read and that will complement your e-shop.

Some other recommendations and useful info

Are you ready to take the plunge and start your blog? Here are some final tips to help you with this project.

Writing is a time consuming activity. Never confuse the time spent reading an article with the time it took to write it. Because a blog needs to be fed! To avoid giving the feeling that it is abandoned, you will need to add content regularly. On the other hand, you don’t necessarily have to publish at a fast pace, prefer quality over quantity .

To avoid white-sheet syndrome, try to keep a small notebook with you to jot down ideas for articles, an article canvas, or snippets of sentences when they come to you. Once in front of your screen you will already have your subject and all you have to do is put your notes in order . Obviously this notebook can be replaced by a Word document that you keep permanently on your computer desktop.

Are you not very comfortable with writing? Nothing dramatic. Although it is preferable to have a minimum of writing skills before embarking on this project, it is not useful to have done a school of journalism. Address your readers as you would orally , use a personal tone (otherwise your texts will sound fake), keep sentences short and use your own words.

Finally, if you want to go deeper into the subject, we invite you to read Morgane Kerninon’s article “ Why is blogging profitable for e-commerce? ” (Which notably contains a very good infographic).

And if you have any examples of successful blog / e-shop pairings that you want to share, feel free to leave the links in the comments.

The maintenance mode of Prestashop has 2 purposes. You can use it when you carry out tests or update operations (module installation, price modification, etc.) or you can use it during the design of your store as a waiting page.

However, the information displayed on this page is limited: just your logo, a title and a short text… Nothing more. A little light ! If the version 1.7 of Prestashop allows you to enter a personalized maintenance message, it is still quite limited. Basically it is like saying “We are closed” to your customers, without further details.

By default Prestashop standard maintenance page is quite poor in information

Which raises many questions for them:

When will your site be available again?

How to contact you during this time?

And on your side you might want to make this page a little nicer. Black text on a white background, no image,… This is not what we can call “attractive”.

Edit Prestashop maintenance page manually

The 1st method to modify the content and the appearance of the maintenance page will consist of modifying the files that compose it.

Let’s start with Prestashop 1.6. In this version, the files in question are those ones:

the maintenance.tpl template (located in your theme directory),

the maintenance.css stylesheet (located in the css subdirectory of your theme)

If you want to add texts or images, you can do so in the template. For texts, if your store is multilingual, do not forget to respect the Smarty syntax which give you the ability to make a character string translatable:{l s=’Text to be translated’}.

Then for all the design modifications (font size, background color, ..), you must modify the stylesheet (which obviously requires a little mastery of this language).

In Prestashop 1.7, the names and locations of these files are slightly different:

the maintenance.tpl template is located in thetemplates/errors directory of your theme,

the stylesheet is called error.css and is in theassets/css directory of your theme

Don’t forget that in this version you can customize the text of the page yourself, as I told you a little earlier (from the “Shop parameters > General” menu, “Maintenance” tabs).

A customization module for the Prestashop maintenance page

If the 1st method turns you off (because you do not have the necessary technical skills), you can have a look on our “Custom maintenance page” module.

Very easy to use, it has the following options:

selection of a template from the available selection (“Site under maintenance”, “Available soon”) or manual entry of the page title and text,

choice of image and background color,

setting up a countdown before the availability of the site

display of contact details and links to social networks

If you develop or administer websites and you work locally (understanding with WAMP / MAMP, EasyPhp, …), you have certainly already been confronted with this problem: your site or your application cannot send an email. Which is annoying since you would need to check that the content of the messages corresponds to what you expect.

One of the solutions to solve this problem is to manually configure your computer so that it is able to communicate with an SMTP server (traditionally that of your Internet service provider). But it can be a bit tedious, especially if your technical knowledge is limited.

The other possibility, much simpler and more flexible, is to use software dedicated to this task. There are several: smtp4dev, MailDev, Fake Sendmail, … but today we are going to talk about the one I prefer: Papercut.

Papercut intercepts sent messages and displays them in a “webmail” interface

The principle of Papercut is simple: it will “monitor” the port on which the e-mails are sent (by default port 25 but you can modify this value in the options) and “catch” all the messages which pass through it.

THen if we have a look on its interface we see that Papercut simulates an email client (like Outlook or GMail). You will therefore find in the left column a list of messages received and in the right part a consultation pane which will allow you to find the details of the message (sender, title, content, …). Those looking for more technical data (such as headers or HTML code) can find it in the different tabs.

Papercut does not require any installation, just unzip the archive and double-click on papercut.exe to launch it. And to download it it happens on its Github project page.

Do not hesitate to leave a comment to share your feedback on Papercut.

Learn how to easily optimize the SEO of your Prestashop store home page with metadata

L’article Prestashop – Edit title and description of homepage est apparu en premier sur BeComWeb Web-Agency.

To optimize your SEO, it is important that you can customize the title (meta title) and the description (meta description) of the home page of your Prestashop site.

Way too light default values

By default, if you don’t enter any meta title, Prestashop will just use the name of your store, which is basic and therefore a bit inconsistant. You lose an opportunity to say a little more about your business.

Even worse! By default the predefined meta description of the homepage of a Prestashop site is “Shop powered by PrestaShop”. And since the meta descriptionis often (but not always) used as the snippet by Google and other search engines, it is essential to replace this text.

For those of you who are not familiar with the term, the snippet is this little piece of text that can be found under the title and the url in the search results.

How the Prestashop site snippet appears in Google results

So if you do not modify the meta description of your homepage, you may end up in this kind of situation where Google uses the phrase “Store powered by Prestashop” as a snippet (sometimes supplemented by some bits of text picked up on the page by the robot), as in the example below. Admit that it’s pretty bad huh ?

<img decoding="async" class="img-responsive wp-image-1251 size-full" src="https://preprod.agence-becomweb.fr/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/google_snippets_invalides.jpg " alt="{%ALT_TEXT%} "width ="800 "height ="715"/>
Without personalization, your site’s display in Google search results might look like this

Optimizing the meta tags of the home page for a better SEO

As explained above, modifying the title and description of the home page will allow you to improve your natural referencing.

To customize this information you must go to Preferences > SEO & URLs menu (or Store settings > Traffic and SEOunder Prestashop 1.7).

You will then find a list of all the pages on your site (more precisely a list of all the controllers). Locate the line that corresponds index then click on the Modify button.

On the next page, you will have access to different fields: Page Title, Meta Descriptionan dMeta Keywords. You can already ignore the last one, it’s been several years since search engines do not take it into account anymore. Let’s focus on the other two.

Customize the title and description of the home page to improve the SEO of your Prestashop store

Let’s start with the page title of the page. Be careful not to confuse it with the H1 title, they are two different things. The title of the page is this text that appears in the tab of your browser. Modifying it is also an opportunity to transmit additional information to search engines. Your slogan, a few words to designate your company,… the choice is yours. But by placing the most relevant keywords, you are likely to move up a few places in the search results. Examples ? “Anytown PC Clinical – whatever the bug is, we will fix it” or even “Super Swag Shop 3000 – best brands streetwear: Adidas, Nike, Lacoste,…”.

No example for the meta description, the possibilities are too wide. But you just need to follow this general recommendation when it comes to SEO: write text that is both intelligible to humans and relevant to bots. Obviously this text will have to contain the keywords that you will have determined as being those which fit best with your SEO strategy. Also remember that it is better to use sentences, simply listing terms or brands will always be less effective.

Improve the SEO of your Prestashop store: correct and optimize

Editing the title and meta description of the home page isn’t always enough to get your store up in search results.

Poor SEO can be due to many factors and therefore the solutions to be provided are of different natures . Depending on the case, it may be a question of corrections to be applied in the code (ex: revisions of the hierarchy of the titles of the blocks) or of the enrichment of the contents (ex: rewriting of the texts, addition of data on the images ,…).

Each store is unique, which is why it is always necessary to start by carrying out an SEO diagnosis , in order to determine an action plan . Do not hesitate to contact us if you wish to obtain a free estimate and to know the measures to put in place to improve the referencing of your Prestashop site .
